Commodities Of Indonesian Local Spices
Indonesia has a long history of the spice trade. Since time immemorial, spices from Indonesia have become a very valuable commodity in the world market. Along with economic growth, the spice trade from Indonesia is growing and becoming one of the main export commodities that helps strengthen the Indonesian economy. The following are some of Indonesia’s famous spices which are the main export commodities:
- Vanilla
The scientific term for the spice plant known as vanilla is Vanilla planifolia Andrews. Vanilla is a relative of orchids and has high economic value. Vanilla is often used as an ingredient in various sectors, including the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, perfumery and traditional handicraft industries.
Planifoil vanilla and tahitensis vanilla are two commercial varieties of the vanilla tree.
- Cloves
Syzygium aromaticum, also called cloves or cloves, is one of the most widely used spices. It is a spice plant that is often used as a natural flavor enhancer and food preservative. In addition, the cigarette, beverage and pharmaceutical sectors all use cloves.
- Cinnamon Stick
The spice with high demand in the global market is cinnamon. Additionally, there are several common price classes in which cinnamon is offered on the market, including broken stick cinnamon, AAA quality cinnamon (usually for export and import), and random quality cinnamon.
Commercially available cinnamon products come in three different varieties: burmannii, zeylanikum, and cassia.
